In addition to its standout cocktails, the Carthay Circle Lounge has a limited food menu that offers various snacks and small plates. They have four different rolls on their menu, and I was curious. After seriously eyeballing the Spicy Chicken Roll, my server suggested we go with the Lobster Pad Thai Imperial Roll instead.
Awesome. Let’s try it.
First off, the roll gets high marks for raw plate appeal – the presentation is gorgeous. In terms of actual food, you get eight pieces of roll with a cashew tamarind dipping sauce on the side. (And yes, they bring chopsticks.)
Everything about this is wonderful. The ingredients are fresh; the lobster chunks are exactly the right size; each piece of the roll has sufficient sauce and flavor to stand on its own. There is a bit of mint, as well, which arrives after the primary wave of flavor has left your tongue (I think of it as a “flavor afterburner”). The cashew tamarind sauce is great, but probably not strictly necessary – it takes the flavor profile up to 11.
This is an easy item to recommend, and it’s a good one for sharing with friends, to boot. It’s light, delicious … a terrific snack.
