Verdict? Not recommended
Cafe Orleans offers a side of French fries as a starter. Naturally, given the New Orleans theming of the restaurant, they’re called Pommes Frites.
It’s hard to have any kind of fresh “take” on french fries, but the gimmick with the Cafe Orleans Pommes Frites is that they’re cooked with parmesan, garlic and parsley, and served with a side of Cajun Spice Remoulade.
Unfortunately, they’re not that remarkable.
Look, if you like fries and are in the mood for fries and you’re sitting in Cafe Orleans just, you know, needing fries, by all means please order the Pommes Frites.
That said, I don’t think these are distinct enough to warrant a “curiosity order”, let alone a special trip to the restaurant. The garlic/parmesan/parsley is very mild (and easy to miss on the tongue), and the remoulade, while a reasonable alternative to ketchup, isn’t remarkable. (I found myself dipping in the ketchup more often than the remoulade, if that tells you anything.)
So. If you’re Jonesing for fries and happen to be at Cafe Orleans, go for it. But if you’re seeking something special, I’d keep looking.
