Schmoozies is a quick-service restaurant in California Adventure’s Hollywood Land. They primarily serve beverages – smoothies, “extreme refresher” lemonades, and espresso drinks. Today, I was in the mood for a smoothie (I was eyeballing a long line at Soarin’, and wanted to make sure I had something to nosh on).
The friendly Cast Member behind the counter steered me toward “The Dynamic Duo”, which the menu describes as “Strawberries, pineapple, and low-fat yogurt, blended with strawberry-pineapple juice.”
Brilliant. Yes, please.
She then said, “I have one in the freezer”, turned to her right, and came back with a pre-made version. At this point, my heart sank a bit. I’m thinking 1) OK, points for speed (there were a handful of other folks lounging around, waiting for their drinks to be made … and I won’t have to be one of them), but 2) minus-points for flavor and freshness (solid block o’ strawberry-flavored ice, here we come).
She smiled and said, “Here you go. This one was already made for you.”
(I assume the Disney manager who conjured that phrase works on the team where they also hatched, “all you care to enjoy” in lieu of “all you can eat.”)
So I pay, take my smoothie, grab a straw, and pop it in.
Turns out The Dynamic Duo is pretty damn good.
It’s quite refreshing, with a pale strawberry flavor (you really can’t taste the pineapple). It has real fruit (you’re hoovering strawberry chunks and seeds with the straw), and goes down easy. I was at DCA on a humid, 85-degree day, and this turned out to be the perfect way to cool down, get some calories, and then stroll off to hear Patrick Warburton’s safety lecture.
I’m not generally a “smoothie guy” – they’re not the first thing I reach for when I’m Theme Parkin’ – but I may have to re-evaluate my position. This was far superior to a soda – and only a buck or two more expensive. The extra money is worth it for something that’s healthier, tastier, and, frankly, waaaay more unique than some glass of Coke Zero.
Recommended, for sure.
