Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar is the official watering hole of the Disneyland Hotel. It’s situated in the middle of the property, next to the pools (and adjacent to the Tangaroa Terrace, with whom it shares a kitchen).
Trader Sam’s is one of my absolute favorite places at Disneyland. The outdoor seating is relaxed and casual: tiki torches, live Hawaiian music in the evenings, and a nice assortment of couches that are perfect for lounging. Indoors is a small, cozy space that’s packed to the rafters with Adventureland, Indiana Jones, Jungle Cruise and Adventurer’s Club memorabilia and gags. Ordering the right cocktail off the menu will trigger an “event” in the bar. It’s a hoot.
Expect a long line, and a crowded scene, on evenings and weekends.
Trader Sam’s primarily serves share-able appetizers (wings, lettuce wraps, flatbreads); today, I went with the Ahi Poke.
You get marinated ahi tuna, served on a bed of avocado guacamole and topped with seaweed salad. There is a side of housemade crisps, some aioli for dipping, and a scattering of black sesame seeds on everything.
The ahi was fresh, and not over-marinated. The seaweed salad was equally good – crisp, not stringy. The guacamole was a terrific flavor/texture complement to the tuna, and the housemade crisps were good on their own … or when loaded up with guacamole/tuna/seaweed goodness.
You can’t go wrong with this, and this dish is easy to recommend.
