The Cozy Cone Motel is a quick-service restaurant in California Adventure’s Cars Land. This is a snack-food operation: smaller portions, easily portable … perfect if you’re planning to eat while waiting in line for Radiator Springs Racers.

One cool thing about the Cozy Cones is that they’re actually five different restaurants. Each cone serves something different, but every offering is cone-themed (and often, punned): ice cream cones, “pop-cone”, and so on. Walk around and check the menus before you queue, or you might find yourself in line for something unexpected.

I wasn’t in the mood for soft serve or popcorn today … but I was curious about the “Chili Cone Queso” at Cozy Cone #3.

This is a super-simple dish: take a waffle-style cone. Pour in chili. Sprinkle cheddar on the top. Throw in a few Fritos for good measure. Include a long plastic spoon, and … voila!

Surprise! It’s tasty.

While the chili was a tad watery, it had some good chunks of meat and veg, and the seasoning level was just right. There wasn’t a ton of cheddar, but it made its presence known. And the Fritos were, well, Fritos. In all their store-bought awesomeness. The sum of the flavors and textures is delightful. It’s a good, good snack.

This is an easy recommend.

(Oh, side note: don’t eat the cone. Trust me on this. The cone may look edible – and technically is edible – but it’s basically a biodegradable container, and should not be considered part of the meal.)

Two more notes.

First, this is not a big portion. It’s a snack, an afternoon booster. Don’t expect a big ‘ol entree-sized dose of chili.

Second, the Cozy Cones are cute and fun, but they don’t have a lot of seating. Furthermore, the seating they do have is fairly exposed to the sun. You can find some shade if you’re lucky, but if you’re trying to beat the California heat, it may be rough. Plan accordingly.
