Enter: the Aviation Cocktail.
Different joints do different things with the Aviation, but the Carthay’s version comes as a gorgeous, purple-colored, frosty liquid served up in a petite glass. They use gin, violet liqueur, maraschino liqueur, and lemon juice. And for flourish, they plop a cherry in the mix (along with extra syrup from the cherry container).
This is primarily a gin drink. That said, you don’t really notice the gin – there’s a lot happening here. The gin is masked by the sweetness of the two liqueurs, which in turn have their syrupy edges shaved off by the acid of the lemon juice.
Put together, this becomes a light, refreshing, cocktail – perfect for sipping on a hot afternoon. You’d have a hard time going wrong with this one. Recommended.
