Verdict? Not recommended
For today’s entry in my ongoing Tour de Cocktail of the Cove Bar, I thought it might be fun to go with one of the Cove’s “Specialty Drinks” – after all, they’re printed right front-and-center on the menu! (What could be easier?)
The two choices? “Sideshow Novel-Tea” or “Midway Martini”? Why, Midway Martini, please.
Holy cow, was this a disappointing cocktail.
This is a MINO: Martini In Name Only. Martinis have bracing, sharp, clear flavors – they’re sipping beverages, basically, because of their strength. This, on the other hand, is alcoholic fruit juice. (Melissa dissed it as a “watered-down Cosmo”.)
The Midway Martini is not, objectively, a horrible cocktail, but there’s nothing to recommend it, either. It’s very sugary, very fruit-juice-y, and unless you take a photo of yourself holding it, you will likely forget you ever drank it.
I expected more, here, and didn’t get it. The drink itself is unmemorable; the fact that they called it a martini just added insult to injury.
Not recommended. If you like Cosmos … get a Cosmo. If you like martinis … get a martini. Don’t get this.
UPDATE: As of March 2017, this dish is no longer available.
