River Belle Terrace’s new menu includes three new starters: Creamy Pimento Cheese Dip, Chilled & Grilled Shrimp, and House Salad. We thought it would be fun to try the Chilled & Grilled Shrimp as an accompaniment to our Pork Spareribs and Fried Chicken Sandwich.
This is a very simple dish. You get four pieces of shrimp, served on a bed of corn, onion, and other veg. There’s a lemon wedge for spritzing, and an oversized container of cocktail sauce for dipping.
I’m pleased to report that it’s all incredibly tasty.
The shrimp are high quality, and each piece is perfectly grilled (not over- or under-done). The lemon juice is an excellent flavor booster. The seafood sauce is a bit tangier than traditional seafood sauce, but it’s solid. And even the veg is delicious, having been dressed in a light vinaigrette.
This is a nice, unique, fresh offering. It’s a delightful addition to the parks. I recommend this, and gladly.
One small caveat: it feels expensive. At most restaurants, shrimp cocktail will run you from $9 to $17, depending on market and the size of the portion. At $12, this is right in line with those prices. That said, this is not a lot of food – more of an amuse-bouche than a full-blown starter. Just be aware when you order.
