You know, for science.
Today’s choice was the “Hippopotomai-Tai” which, following the Trader Sam’s tradition, is a regular cocktail with a silly, tropically-themed name. (I suspect that the branding genius behind Denny’s’ “Moons Over My Hammy” now works for Disney.)
The drink comes in a tall, thin glass, garnished with a cherry and a huge slice of orange. You’ll definitely hit your daily requirement of Vitamin C.
Initial impression: this is a very cold, very boozy drink. The rum makes its presence felt, but not obnoxiously; the rum is nicely cut by the flavor of the lime juice and agave nectar. Consequently, the finished product has a mild, semi-fruity flavor.
My initial impression was solid … but that was the high point. The drink’s distinctiveness quickly vanished. With subsequent sips, the Hippopotomai-Tai felt increasingly like a sugary, watered-down drink. Bleh.
I’d skip this. There are too many other intriguing choices on the Trader Sam’s menu. Not recommended.
