Verdict? Not recommended

Johnathon’s in town. We’re hanging out at Trader Sam’s. I’ve secured a Hippopotomai-Tai. It’s time to find some food.

After examining at the menu, we opt for the Shrimp Tacos.

This is a surprisingly small dish for $11. It’s three petite tacos, served with a side of “tropical slaw.” Each taco consists of a double tortilla, a few pieces of sautéed shrimp, some cabbage and light tartar sauce.

Sadly, there’s not enough oomph in this dish to recommend it. The shrimp are actually pretty good, but they’re dragged down by other flavors. The double-tortilla treatment puts a lot of tortilla on the tongue. The cabbage is inert, and the tartar sauce is barely there. Taken together, it’s meh. The shrimp is nice, but there’s not enough power to overcome the other flavors (or lack thereof) in the mouth.

If it were me, I’d ditch the second tortilla, add a bit more shrimp, and double the dollop of tartar sauce. You might have something.

Oh, and the “tropical slaw” is really a garnish. And boring.

Not recommended. Stick with the Ahi Poke.
