Verdict? Not recommended
With the Shrimp Tacos being such a small (and underwhelming) portion, Johnathon and I decided to fill a bit more stomach space with the Chicken Lettuce Wraps.
Sadly, this was also a fizzle.
A good lettuce wrap is all about kickass ingredients: fresh lettuce, well-seasoned meat, and a strong hoisin sauce. Unfortunately, the Trader Sam’s version gets the lettuce right … but nothing else.
The hoisin sauce is ‘thin n’ vinegary’ as opposed to ‘thick n’ tangy’. The chicken is seasoned very mildly, so there’s not much flavor to be found. And the crisps are pure filler: totally inert, crunchy white nothingness. Put it together, and you don’t have much: a bit of fresh lettuce, a mishmash of weak chicken flavor, and a stream of vinegar running through everything.
This dish is just OK. At best. Maybe a 3 or 4 out of 10 on the flavor scale. There’s just nothing much going for it.
