Carnation Cafe offers “Classic Malts” in three flavors: chocolate, vanilla, and cherry. I’m not a huge milkshake guy, but a) this is a malt, which is different, b) I’m on a hot streak with all my Fried Pickles and Meatloaf business, and c) I’m going to try the malt at some point for this project, right?
No time like the present.
I order vanilla. (Richard, sitting across the table, opts for cherry.)
This is a super-cool, old-school presentation. The malt arrives in a simple glass, topped with whipped cream. The waiter also delivers a metal mixing cup, still holding a good bit of extra mixed malt. (This lets you do an in-flight refill, should you be so inclined.)
The vanilla flavor is strong and pronounced. The texture is creamy and rich. It’s delightful. A strong offering. I have no problem recommending this, and think it’s better than the Classic Shake at Flo’s (which I also recommend). Richard reported that the cherry flavor was “very maraschino,” and he was happy, too.
A great dish. Give this a try, for sure.
