Verdict? Not recommended

Bill and I decided to close out a long day of Theme Parkin’ with a nightcap at The Lounge At Steakhouse 55.

I’ve been steadily exploring the cocktail menu here for the past couple months. The next item on the list looks to be … The Side Car.

Ingredients-wise, this seems promising. Hennessy VS, Cointreau, and lemon juice. Easy. The drink arrives with a sugared rim and a small twist of citrus, floating in the middle of the liquid.

I take a sip …. and it’s nothing special.

This is a muddled cocktail. There’s a decent orange flavor, but not enough punch or bite or resolution to break out. The sugar on the rim makes the problem a bit worse, because the sweetness just magnifies the weakness of the drink’s core flavor. There’s nothing terribly wrong with this cocktail, but there’s nothing terribly right about it, either.

Bill, for his part, ordered The French 75 and loved it. (As in, “Uh, waiter? I’ll have another.”) Praise for The French 75 seems to be unanimous: we’d bumped in to Bryce and Sharon earlier in the day, and Bryce enthused about how much he’d enjoyed it, too.

With respect to The Side Car: skip it. There’s better stuff on this menu.
