So it’s early evening. The Monte Cristo has finally worn off. And we’re hungry. Dinner is coming up, but we need something to tide us over. Time for cocktails and a snack.
We head to the Carthay Circle Lounge.
The Lounge has a limited food selection, but I’ve had good luck with their appetizers in the past (e.g., Lobster Pad Thai Imperial Rolls). Today, we want something to share around the table. So we go with the Flat Bread.
Fundamentally, this is pizza. It’s a rectangle instead of a circle, and cut into twelve bite-sized pieces, but pizza nonetheless. The ingredients are good – tomato sauce, pepperoni, mushrooms, roasted garlic, some chili flakes. The crust is thin and light. The spice level is nice, and not too overpowering. Everything works.
It’s not a wow, but it’s 100% qualified for the job we hired it to do.
Nina said it best: “It’s really just pizza with a fancy name. But that said, I like it. And I’m going to have another piece.”
