Verdict? Not recommended

There’s 5 of us for dinner at the Carthay Circle Restaurant. We’re hungry. Entrees are on order, but we’re looking for calories a little sooner than that. It’s appetizer time.

We’ve been warned off the Signature Biscuits, so we check the menu, and pick a fresh face: the Ceviche of Citrus-Marinated Cobia.

This is an underwhelming dish.

We expected something light and refreshing, something with a nice burst of flavor. Something we can share across the table.

This is share-able, sure, but it’s also incredibly bland. The ingredients are fresh, but mild to the point of non-presence. There’s fish. There’s onion. Theres avocado (which is actually nice). There’s a green salsa-ish sauce that doesn’t do much.

Nothing is memorable. Not flavor, not texture, not sauces. I found myself forgetting what each bite tasted like just seconds after it cleared my tongue.

Finally, the Cobia comes with a side of plantain chips. I found them to be quite meh, but they had a few fans around the table. Your mileage may vary.

Not recommended. Skip it.
