Italian Cold Cut Plate @ Sonoma Terrace

So we’re sitting in the Sonoma Terrace. I’m halfway through a beer, and thoroughly disappointed with the Gourmet Cheese Plate I ordered to go with it. I decide to make another run at the menu, and hope that our fortunes turn around with the next dish.

I order the Italian Cold Cut Plate.

This is also horribly disappointing.

This dish is the “just add meat!” version of the Gourmet Cheese Plate. It’s served in the same crappy plastic shell, and has the same pre-cut cheese cube sadness. However, instead of four kinds of cheese, you get two (cheddar & jack), along with some prosciutto and salami. Oh, and two wilted peperoncini peppers. For some reason.

All of this is straight out of a bad deli case. It’s got slightly more flavor than the Gourmet Cheese Plate, but that’s not a high bar. The meat is a tag soggy and more than a tad salty. The cheese is stale. The peppers don’t have a lot of life left in them. If I tried to serve this to houseguests, my wife would divorce me.

We didn’t finish this.

Here’s the thing: if you’re sitting in the Sonoma Terrace and you think, “Wow, it’d really be nice to get some meat and cheese to go with this delicious beer/wine I’m drinking,” then I want you to stand up, leave the restaurant, walk the short distance to the Alfresco Tasting Terrace, and order the Charcuterie plate. Seriously. It’s that much better.

This is not recommended. At all.
