We’re strolling Main Street, USA, and Elaine’s craving ice cream. The Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor is just steps away. We peek in. Despite the warm weather, the line seems manageable. We go for it.
Gibson Girl mostly traffics in ice cream cones – standard, waffle, waffle with sprinkles, that sort of thing – but they do have a few house specialties. After reviewing our options, we place an order for the Firehouse Dalmatian Mint Sundae.
This is chocolate-chip-mint ice cream, served in a waffle bowl. It comes with a generous portion of hot fudge, whipped cream, and a cherry on top. We grab two long spoons and head for a table.
Like the Hot Fudge Sundae at the Golden Horseshoe, this is a simple dish. As such, it lives and dies by the quality of the ingredients. I’m pleased to report that everything’s great. The ice cream in premium (and generously portioned). The hot fudge is delightful. The whipped cream is solid. And the cherry is a garnish, but adds class. Even the waffle bowl is good – you can snack on it if the mood strikes you.
This is refreshing, festive, and decadent. You could split it two or three ways, and it’ll make everyone happy. Absolutely recommended.
