When the four of us arrived at the Carthay Circle Lounge, we were a bit fatigued, and in need of refuge. (Because: theme parkin’.) So we did the cocktail. We did the appetizers. And now our mojo is back. Spirits are high.
Time for something sweet.
The Carthay has something they call “California Rocky Road” (quotes included). The menu says it’s a chocolate brownie sundae with marshmallow sauce. (Truthfully, they had us at “brownie.”) So we order.
The plate arrives. It’s definitely a brownie sundae, but a bit artistic and deconstructed. This isn’t the Hot Fudge Sundae at the Golden Horseshoe, or the Firehouse Dalmation Mint Sundae at Gibson Girl. This is … different. A little modern, even.
Spoons out, we go to work.
This is excellent. The brownie is very chocolaty and very nutty. The marshmallow sauce is high-quality: good consistency, not too overpowering. The vanilla ice cream is very good: strong, clean flavor. The scattering of nuts and chocolate sauce provide pops of flavor and texture.
In summary: this is a delicious, decadent dessert. It’s perfect for sharing. And I’d order it again anytime.
