So far, our dinner at Steakhouse 55 has been very positive (the New York Strip not withstanding). Our first side, the Sauteed Green Beans, was good stuff; our second, the Parmesan Scalloped Potatoes, has just arrived.
I’m eager to try it: “steak and potatoes” is a phrase for a reason. I love potatoes with steak. Baked? Mashed? Whipped? Yes, yes, and yes. So when we saw Parmesan Scalloped Potatoes on the menu, it was the easiest decision of the day.
Up top: the portion isn’t very large. It’s a rectangle, just a few inches across on the narrow end, and about twice that lengthwise. It’s a huge portion for one person, reasonable for two, but if you’re a party of four – as we are – each person gets just a few bites.
Second: it’s delicious. Yes, it’s total comfort food. And yes, it’s “just” potatoes + butter + cheese. But it’s perfectly proportioned. Cheesy without being overly so; creamy, without being too silky. There’s a slight tanginess to it. And capping it off (literally), is the crust on top, providing a happy-making crunch and burst of texture.
In short: it’s terrific. A great side. Get it on your next Steakhouse 55 visit. Trust me.
