Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar is one of my favorite watering holes at the Disneyland Resort. I love the theme, the drinks, the live music, the whimsy, and the special effects. (I’m not so in love with the fact that it’s insanely popular, but there you go.)
Tonight, I’m back at Sam’s to get a drink with my buddy DJ. He’s in town with the family; we’re getting adult beverages after the kids are in bed. We’ve lucked out with a table inside the bar, which means our catching-up is regularly punctuated with the special effects from people ordering Shipwreck on the Rocks and Krakatoa Punch.
It’s a great vibe. And it’s putting me in the mood for something tropical, something theme-appropriate.
I go with the Lost Safari.
Up top: this is a vacation drink. It’s served with a chunk of pineapple, a small paper umbrella, and a bendy straw. It’s loaded with rum. It’s nicely chilled. It’s the sort of thing you picture in your hand when you dream about relaxing on a beach somewhere.
It’s damn tasty. Easy drinking. There’s plenty of kick in this, but the bartenders have shaved the edge off the booze with fruit juice and “Trader Sam’s Gorilla Grog” (whatever that is). The combination is a potent, thoroughly-enjoyable cocktail that practically invites you to have another one. (Which, if you’re sitting with a friend at Trader Sam’s, is a very smart thing to do.)
