We’re back at the Cove Bar.
It’s been a while since our last visit. We love the Cove … but apparently everyone else loves the Cove, too. Disney physically expanded the restaurant in 2016, which boosted its visibility. Since then, the place has been popular. Lines regularly clock in at 45 – 120 minutes. And, since the Cove doesn’t take reservations, that means you’re standing in a switchback queue for the duration, waiting for your number to be called.
(The restaurant needs FastPass.)
Anyhow. Elaine and I got ahead of the crowds (pro tip: go Sunday morning), and secured an intimate table with a great view of California Screamin’. The sky is blue, there’s a light breeze going, and we’ve got a sunbeam keeping us warm. This is why people wait for the Cove.
Time for beverages.
Unlike the Carthay Circle or some of the hotel lounges (e.g., The Lounge At Steakhouse 55), the Cove Bar doesn’t offer unique cocktails. They have a good menu of boozy drinks, but all of them are available at any Disney establishment that serves alcohol (e.g., Wine Country Trattoria). I browse through my options, and spot the Habanero Lime Margarita.
The word “Habanero” gives me pause. I’m not looking for spicy this morning. But I do love a good margarita, especially on a sunny day.
Let’s give it a shot.
The drink arrives in a medium-sized, funnel-shaped glass. The beverage has the classic, light-green margarita color. The rim is coated in salt; there’s a slice of lime on the side. A straw is included. Everything seems in order. I take a sip.
It’s good stuff.
This is very much a standard, regular, ordinary, garden-variety lime margarita. There’s no spice to speak of. (I have no idea why the word “Habanero” is in the title.). It’s slightly sweet, slightly sour, and quite delightful. Credible. Easy drinking. Disney should just call it “The Margarita” and be done with it. I’d definitely order this again.
