Well, Paul, Anna and Claire are regular readers of the blog. They’re in the parks. And they want to see what all the fuss is about. We meet up in Cars Land, and stroll ourselves over to Hollywood Land.
We order. This time, I go with the BBQ Crunch Dog. (“Cheddar sausage topped with barbecue sauce, cheddar jack cheese, and crispy fried onions.”). The dish is handed through the window, and I wander over to our group’s table.
Initial impressions? Super positive. Like the Bacon Street Dog, the BBQ Crunch Dog comes on an upgraded split bun, is topped with good-looking ingredients, and has fries on the side. I’m excited.
I pick the dog up, figure out the geometry of getting it in my mouth, and take a bite.
Really: another great dog on the new menu. The dog itself is high-quality, and has a bit of snap. The bun is the right level of buttery flavor and toasted texture. The barbecue sauce adds some tang. The cheese mixture isn’t doing much (but that’s ok). And the fried onions don’t have a lot of intrinsic flavor, but they add some delightful crunchiness here and there.
Oh, and the fries are spectacular. Probably the best fries at the resort.
I don’t know which mid-level management meeting turned Award Wieners around, but some good people put their heads together and tried to do something right here. It’s totally paying off. These dogs are creative, fresh, and tasty. I’m really looking forward to the next one.
