The menu features two different falafel pitas: “Savory Strength” and “Promising Future.” (Disney is definitely phoning it in on the names.) We ask the friendly Cast Member how to pick between them.
“The Savory is spicier,” he says.
OK. We’ll take that one.
The dish arrives in a paper basket, lined with fake newsprint. It’s a single piece of pita bread, holding three falafel fritters, some green veg (“cucumber mint slaw”) and a squirt of yogurt sauce.
I pick it up, and take a bite.
This is super, super bready. The pita brings a considerable amount of bread flavor on its own, but the fritters level it up into a carbohydrate bomb. The cucumber mint slaw is actually pretty good, but not strong enough. And the yogurt sauce is really just moisture. There’s not a lot of flavor going on. And eating this quickly became a chore.
I wanted to like this dish, but couldn’t get there. It’s nice to see Disney trying non-burger, non-hot-dog options (another bonus: this is vegetarian!), but the quality just isn’t here. This needed some oomph, some push, some hook. It doesn’t have one. Which is a pity.
