So you’re at the Disneyland Resort, and you’re craving a sandwich. Not some dinky sandwich – a big one. Piled high. With fresh ingredients. And served with a generous side of something salty and fried, to put you deep into a carbohydrate coma.
If that’s the case, you could do much, much worse than the Slow-Roasted Turkey Clubhouse at Storytellers Cafe.
This is a generous sandwich. There’s two slices of toasted bread, and between them you’ll find strata after strata of ingredient: Turkey. Tomato. Bacon. Lettuce. Some kind of delicious avocado paste, in lieu of mayonnaise. The whole thing is held together with a small wooden stake. (It needs it.) And in the salty+fried category, there’s a small mountain of fries alongside the main attraction.
I take a bite. (Fitting it in my mouth was a bit of a trick.) It’s good, good stuff. Everything works. Every ingredient is present and accounted for. Chewing is fun; it keeps throwing goodness at the tongue.
In a park full of terrible turkey sandwiches, it’s nice to find one that delivers the goods. (Just make sure you have a hotel room lined up to sleep away the carb coma.)
