I’m at Refreshment Corner on Main Street, USA. They’re known mostly for quick-service items, like hot dogs, (including, unfortunately, their dreadful Mac & Cheese Dog), but today I’m here for the Hearty Chili.
This item has been hanging out at the bottom of the Refreshment Corner menu for some time. I’ve become curious.
I order, and am directed to the end of the counter to “wait for them to call my name.” This suggests they’re making it to order. Excellent.
When the dish arrives, it’s served in the standard Disney sourdough bread bowl. But with a touch of class: they’ve split the cap for easier eating/dipping, and covered the chili in a yellow/white cheese mixture (I’m guessing cheddar and jack, but it’s hard to tell).
I head for a table, and get to work.
This is, fundamentally, chili from a can, heated to a nice hot temperature and covered in cheese. Despite that … it’s pretty good! The flavor is much better than expected. While the chili won’t win any awards (and certainly wouldn’t be considered a standout among chili lovers), it really hit the spot for me. It’s unpretentious, solid, a good value. And, on a colder day, I’d come back to Refreshment Corner and order it again.
