Richard and Melissa are in town and hitting the parks. After some back-and-forth about where to meet for dinner, we settle on Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar. It’s cute, charming, whimsical, and – most critically – has a wide selection of alcoholic beverages on the menu.
Stan and I are the advance party. We get to Sam’s, secure a table (a minor miracle), and begin browsing for appetizers.
I see the “Sweet and Spicy Asian Wings,” and close the menu.
The dish arrives as a long, rectangular plate. There are five wings, dark red, slathered in sauce. A good-sized container of aioli has been included for dipping.
We get to work.
These are good. “Meaty,” says Stan. They’re well-crisped; the sauce is more sweet than spice. My initial bite wasn’t great, but the flavor got better as I went along. Also, the aioli helps: the flavor/texture pairing of the wings and the aioli is quite nice.
This one started weakly, but ended as a finger-licking table-pleaser. A solid (if sweet) pick when you’re in the mood for wings. Get it.
