It’s dinnertime. There are four of us at Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar, making entree selections.
I’ve been to Sam’s many times, and have been working my way through their menu. I’ve had Shrimp Tacos. Chicken Lettuce Wraps. Ahi Poke. They’re all a bit … light. And I’m hungry. So I’m searching for burgers and sandwiches.
“Slow-Roasted Kalua-Style Pork Sandwich”?
The Friendly Cast Member delivers the sandwich a short while later. My heart sinks. Presentation-wise, this is pretty sad. The bun appears to dominate the sandwich. There’s an ocean of fries on the plate. It feels like a carbohydrate bomb waiting to go off.
I take my first bite.
Wow! This is pretty good!
The bun is softer than expected, and compresses down nicely. The pork filling is moist, meaty, and drenched in a delightful barbecue sauce. It’s wet, but not greasy. There’s some cabbage, adding bits of crunch and texture. My first bite turns in to a second, and then a third, and pretty soon my hunger problem has been thoroughly solved.
The fries are the standard Disney park fries. Unremarkable. (But any friends at the table will undoubtedly eat them.)
Despite its appearance, the pork sandwich was a delight. It hit the spot. And it’s an easy recommend.
