Verdict? Not recommended
Once in a while, we try a dish and it’s a stinker. Occupational hazard. Comes with the project.
When this happens, my general inclination is to give the restaurant a second chance. Maybe the first dish was goofy. Maybe I caught the tail end of a shift. Something. Anything. Doesn’t matter. Second chances seem fair and right.
Which brings us to now.
I’ve just tried (and really, really did not like) the Mega Pepperoni at Redd Rockett’s Pizza Port. I’m at the table, a little dumbfounded. The slice was terrible. And I hear the voice in the back of my head: “Second chance.”
So I head back in, purchase a slice of Lunar Cheese, and return to my table. I’m hoping for redemption.
Surprisingly, the Lunar Cheese is even more underwhelming than the Mega Pepperoni. Where the pepperoni had, uh, pepperoni, this slice is just 100% generic, carbohydrate-heavy cheap pizza. Generic dough. Generic cheese. Slightly warm. You forget it the moment it clears the esophagus. Bleeeeeeeeech.
I’ve had one good pizza experience at Redd’s – the Venus Vegetarian. I see now that the vegetables were doing more work than I realized. They added texture and flavor, and that’s the difference.
The Lunar Cheese is pretty dreadful. Skip it.
