Red Rose Taverne is a Beauty and the Beast-themed overlay of the Village Haus Restaurant in Fantasyland.
I’ve had good luck at the Village Haus – I really liked their BLT Flatbread – so I’m curious to see if the re-theming of the restaurant has changed the menu’s quality.
Since my last flatbread was so good, I’m hoping the winning streak continues. I order the Garden Flatbread.
This is a thin, sturdy, rectangular piece of dough, lightly covered in red sauce. There’s some good-sized pieces of tomato and chunks of mozzarella. And, rounding it off, there’s basil shavings scattered about. It smells pretty good.
The dish is (conveniently) pre-sliced into six pieces. I pick one up, and get to work.
Hey! This is solid!
The star of the show is the crust. It’s light, biscuit-y, and delightful. It’s perfectly complemented by the light red sauce, which leaves most of the flavor to the tomato and mozzarella. (And when the basil shows up, it really shows off.)
This is a delightful relief from the doughy, grease-bomb slices served elsewhere in the park. It’s light, it’s tasty, and it really lets its ingredients do their job. And, at $9, it’s a pretty good value, to boot.
