We’ve just wrapped dinner at Napa Rose. We’ve had a couple hits, a couple misses, and now we’re leaning back in our chairs, relaxing, and asking the key question of the night:
“Who’s up for dessert?”
We agree, as a party, to “just peek” at the dessert menu. You know, out of courtesy.
Elaine spies it almost immediately. “Hot chocolate!” she says.
There’s a momentary hushed silence as we all search for the item. And … there it is. “Best Ever Hot Chocolate.”
Now … we’ve seen boastful claims about hot chocolate in the parks before. Schmoozie’s offered Ultimate Hot Cocoa (now discontinued). It was far from “Ultimate.”
Napa Rose is a special place. This could be … magical.
We go for it.
The dessert arrives on an oval plate. The hot chocolate sits in a modestly-sized mug, and is accompanied by a few pastries.
Elaine goes first with the beverage. She smiles, broadly, and hands it to me. I take a sip.
This is terrific. Rich, sure. But not too decadent or overpowering. It’s got a full-throated, no-holds-barred chocolate flavor, but doesn’t veer into the territory of being a drinking chocolate. There’s enough milk chocolate to keep it from being a heavy, ponderous dessert. Instead, it’s just a straight-up chocolate-lovers’ treat.
The pastries are solid, too. There’s a chestnut-flavored donut (nicely crisp and sugary), a ginger cake (a tad flat, in my opinion), and a “mini sweet croissant” which was gone before I figured out what it tasted like.
“Best Ever” is a big term, but in this case I think Napa Rose is entitled to some bragging rights. This is great. Get it. Trust us.
