I’ll get right to the point: this is outrageously good. And after the first few bites, we knew it was a standout.
Served in a shallow white bowl, the dish is a pile of cheesy grits, topped with whole shrimp, sliced sausage, fava beans and corn, then drenched in a seafood sauce. It’s a generous portion. Super filling.
The shrimp is perfectly cooked. The sausage adds tang and a counterpoint to the shrimp. The beans and corn are flavor boosters. And underlying it all are the cheesy grits and the sauce, both of which add a rich, creamy decadence.
Eating this is a constant, delightful series of flavor bursts. Each bite made us smile; each ingredient added something specific. You don’t want to eat too quickly, lest you miss some nuance of flavor.
Elaine found it a touch salty. (I thought it was perfect.)
Standouts are what you eat if you’re only going to eat one thing. This is definitely that. If you’re heading to Cafe Orleans, order this. Everything else is optional.
