It’s lunchtime. We’re at Wine Country Trattoria, on the outdoor patio, watching people stroll the parks.
It’s been a while since our last trip to the Trattoria, and I’ve missed it. The food is generally solid, but the outdoor ambience takes it over the top for me.
The Friendly Cast Member arrives to take our orders. We start with a Caprese Salad.
The dish is delivered just a few moments later. It’s quite attractive: yellow and red grape tomatoes, halved, scatted across a small white dish with small ovals of mozzarella cheese. The entire thing sits on a drizzle of balsamic reduction, and is topped with shredded basil.
Seriously: a good-looking dish.
Forks come out, and in we go.
For all its bright colors, attractive presentation and promise, this dish is pretty underwhelming. The tomatoes don’t pop. The mozzarella is very plain. The balsamic reduction just sits there.
This needs salt, is what I’m saying.
I didn’t hate this, but there’s not much to recommend. Salads are made or broken on the quality of their ingredients, and these are average ingredients at best. For $9, I expect more. Skip it.
