Sometimes, you have to trust the professionals.
Case in point: the Spaghetti & Meat Sauce at Storytellers Cafe.
I found myself a bit flummoxed by the menu. Lots of choices. Many sound delicious. And I was having a hard time figuring out what to eat. So I asked the Friendly Cast Member what she recommended. “If this was the only thing you were going eat here,” I said, “What would it be?”
“Spaghetti,” she says. (No hesitation. At all.) “It’s been on the menu forever. And for good reason.”
Okay, then. Let’s do that.
The dish is delivered. It’s a mound of thin noodles in a big white bowl, drenched in red sauce and accompanied by a slice of garlic bread (in case, one assumes, the pasta alone isn’t enough carbohydrate for you?). Parmesan has been thoughtfully sprinkled everywhere.
I break out the fork, twirl myself a mouthful, and take a bite.
Seriously: a simple dish, flawlessly executed. The pasta is cooked perfectly. The meat sauce is hearty and tomato-y and not overdone. The flavor does exactly. the. right. things. once it’s in the mouth. Then, the pasta drops into your stomach, where it sits, making you warm and happy.
The garlic bread is fine. Standard. Soft, served warm. But the pasta is where the action is.
I’d eat this again, anytime. Delicious and delightful. As the lady says: it’s been on the menu forever. And for good reason.
