It’s a warm afternoon in Anaheim, and Bryce is in the mood for ice cream. As luck would have it, we’re on Main Street, USA. The Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor is just steps away.
Even luckier: there’s no line. (“Oh, my God,” said Sharon. “How is this possible?”)
Over the past few months, we’ve been steadily working our way through the Gibson Girl menu. They have a few different sundaes; we liked the Firehouse Dalmatian, but gave a hard pass to the Strawberry Street Car.
Today? It’s time for the Chocolate Chip Cookie Sundae.
The service is quick, and the dish is handed across the counter. It’s two big scoops of ice cream, topped with whipped cream, fudge, and a cherry. Two chocolate-chip cookies have been added for good measure.
In other words: it’s huge.
Spoons come out, and everyone gets to work.
This isn’t special. The ice cream is the standard Disney vanilla; the whipped cream is out of a can (and more air than cream); the fudge is super-light (almost a hot-chocolate flavor); the cherry is meh. And the cookie is … well, as Elaine says, “terrible.” A semi-soft, grocery-store chocolate chip cookie.
This is better than the Strawberry Street Car sundae, and kids might like it, but it’s about as boring as you can get. You’ll hit your sugar and dairy limit, for sure, but I don’t think it will make you happy. Skip it.
