It’s been a long, hot, exhausting day in the parks. Rides have been ridden. Skin has been sunburned. Feet have swollen. It’s all caught up with us. We’re beat.
Fortunately, we have late dinner reservations at the Carthay Circle Restaurant. We’re whisked to a table upstairs, and settle in for some air-conditioned fine dining.
One of the under-appreciated things about the Carthay Circle is how frequently they refresh their menu. They’re big on seasonality. Summer has arrived, which also means their summer menu is here. We look for something light, refreshing.
We pick the Carthay Summer Salad.
This is a seriously good-looking, starter-sized salad. It’s lots of fresh greens, well-dressed, with slices of peach, some green beans, and nuts.
I take my first bite.
This is excellent. Fresh, crisp, and perfectly balanced. The lettuce is great. The beans and nuts add texture and flavor. The dressing is perfectly applied: not too much, not too little. The peaches are a surprising (and delightful) addition. Together, it adds up to a lot of happiness, bite after delightful bite. Exactly what I needed after a long day.
I smile, and sink back into my chair.
